SUMMER CAMP ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR OVERSEAS VISITORS

There are no TOEFL requirements. You may be a beginning, intermediate, or advanced English learner, but you must know at least some English to be successful at the Oregon Language Center. We will do our best to work with your needs.

Adults, college students, and mature high school students may enroll at the Oregon Language Center. However, high school students are required to live in a family homestay (such as OvECS or Andeo International), or rent a room in the OLC shared apartment in order to enroll in our program. (Click on the housing link for details.) For insurance reasons, anyone under age 18 may not participate in the Parks Department excursions listed under the Optional Day Trips link.

VISA REQUIREMENTS

Because the Oregon Language Center provides part-time educational instruction and part-time sightseeing or recreation, you may join us with a B1 or B2 visa, or no visa if your country qualifies for the Visa Waiver Program. Visitors to the United States on B1 or B2 visas or the Visa Waiver Program are permitted to enroll in short courses of study less than 18 hours per week and to travel for tourism and amusement.

VISA WAIVER PROGRAM

If you are from a country that participates in the Visa Waiver Program and you have a newly issued machine-readable passport, you do not need to obtain a visa to attend our program. On the Visa Waiver Program, you may attend the OLC and travel for tourism or amusement for up to 90 days. In this case, you must declare to the Customs and Immigration officers at the airport that your primary purpose of travel to the United States is recreation, pleasure, or tourism. Important: If you declare that your primary purpose of travel to the United States is to study, then you must present an F1 or M1 student visa to enter the United States. The U.S. Department of State instructed the Oregon Language Center to advise participants to declare "recreation" as the purpose of travel.  For more detailed visa information including countries participating in the visa waiver program, go to:
http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1262.html

B2 VISAS

In order to attend the Oregon Language Center on a B2 visitor visa you must inform the Embassy or Consulate where you obtain your B2 Visa that your primary purpose of travel to the United States is recreation, pleasure, or tourism. Visitors on B2 visas are permitted to enroll in short courses of study less than 18 hours per week and to travel for tourism and amusement for up to 6 months. If you plan to travel in the United States after attending the Oregon Language Center, you should inform the consular office of the total length of time you plan to visit the United States.  When you are screened by Customs and Immigration at the airport, you must again declare that your primary purpose of travel to the United States is recreation, pleasure or tourism. Important: If you declare that your primary purpose of travel to the United States is to study, then you must present an F1 or M1 student visa to enter the United States. The U.S. Department of State instructed the Oregon Language Center to advise participants to declare "recreation" as the purpose of travel. For more visa information, go to: http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1262.html

F1/M1/J1 VISAS

F1, M1, or J1 student visas are NOT required to attend the Oregon Language Center. Because we are not a SEVIS/SEVP school, we cannot assist you in obtaining an F1, M1, or J1 visa. If you need an F1, M1, or J1 visa to attend college or become an exchange visitor in the United States when you leave the Oregon Language Center, you should notify the consulate of your intentions. They can assign you a B2 visa to attend our program and to travel. Once you are in the United States on a B2 visa, you have 60 days to apply to convert your visa to another status. You should seek the assistance of your SEVIS school to obtain the F1, M1, or J1.

If you are already in the United States on an F1 or M1 visa, you may enroll at the Oregon Language Center as long as you maintain your status with your SEVIS school and do not engage in employment-related activities.

VISA PROCESSING TIMES

At last check, the visa wait time in Seoul was approximately 7 days for an appointment and 3 days for processing.
