3.  How much spending money should I bring?

Besides having enough money to cover your expenses as listed above, you may want a little spending money for souvenirs and snacks. How much you should bring is completely dependent upon your spending habits. It is not necessary to bring all of your spending money in cash. Most stores and restaurants accept debit and credit cards for purchases, and traveler's checks are also commonly accepted. Cash is useful for small purchases under $5.

4.  What about medical insurance?

You will be responsible for any medical expenses you incur in this country. Be advised that the cost of medical care in the United States is exhorbitant. You may wish to purchase travel accident insurance or emergency medical insurance for overseas before you leave your country.  If you wish to purchase medical insurance in the United States, the Oregon Language Center can put you in contact with an insurance agent who can sell you an emergency policy for about $50 per month for healthy students aged 18 to 29.
