Housing
There are a number of housing
choices for your travel-study vacation.
1. OvECS (www.azhomestay.com)
can arrange a homestay with a family in the Albany
area. They will make every effort to place students
near the Oregon Language Center; however, it is
possible that a student may have to travel up to
one hour if nearby families are previously booked.
OvECS charges a $200 processing fee to arrange a
homestay, but housing costs are only $22 per day
and include 2 meals, making long-term stays very
affordable.
2. Summer housing is also
available for up to 6 non-smoking Oregon Language
Center participants in a single shared, furnished
apartment. This 3-bedroom apartment is
located in the basement of one of the teacher's
homes. It is a historic home in a quiet
neighborhood about 1 km from the OLC. Up to 2
people of the same sex will share each bedroom, and
all 6 tenants (males and females) will share the
bathroom and common area. The apartment is
furnished with beds and linens, TV, computer
access, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, rice
cooker, and a laundry room. Simple foods such
as bread, rice, ramen, and tea will be supplied in
the apartment. Restaurants and a convenience store
are 1 km away. Rates are $25 per day or $125 per
week. The apartment is not handicap accessible.
Contact the Oregon Language Center for space
availability.
3. Washington Street
Apartments, located 1 km from the Oregon Language
Center offers fully furnished, non-smoking private
apartments for $750 per month. The apartments
include a kitchen, living room, bathroom and
bedroom with queen-sized bed. Linens, cable TV, and
all utilities are included. The apartment
does not accept credit cards. Payment must be made
in cash or American Express traveler's checks in
U.S. dollars. Call (541) 928-1155 for a
reservation. Note: These apartments fill fast and
there are often no vacancies.
4. Lindenwood Apartments
(www.lindenwoodapts.com),
7 km from the Oregon Language Center, offers
unfurnished, non-smoking studio, one-bedroom, and
quad apartments (private bedrooms with a bathroom
and kitchen shared by 4 people). Quad move in
fees are $690 plus electricity ($325 first month's
rent + $40 nonrefundable application fee + $325
apartment deposit, returned in 30 days if the
apartment is not damaged). Water and garbage
service are included. If you rent a quad apartment
(but NOT if you rent a studio or one-bedroom), the
apartment manager will contact the electric company
on your behalf to have electric service started
upon your arrival, but you must pay for the
electricity you use. Lindenwood Apartments accepts
applications and payment on-line and has a laundry
room which accepts electronic payments. They have a
swimming pool, activity room, and designated
smoking area. Ladies, for your safety, please be
advised that quad roommates may be males of any age
and may not be students.
5. There are two charming Bed
& Breakfast Inns located in historic homes just
4 blocks from Oregon Language Center. The Pfeiffer
Cottage Inn (www.thepfeiffercottageinn.com)
has rooms for $85 to $185 per night including full
breakfast and offers 10% off their rates for Oregon
Language Center students staying one week or more.
The Train House Inn (www.trainhouseinn.com)
offers rooms for $100 per night including tax and
full breakfast but offers discounts for stays on
Sundays through Thursdays, longer stays, or rooms
only without breakfast. They also have a 3-bedroom
suite that could be shared by 3 students for a
reduced rate.
6. There are several clean
chain hotels in Albany with varying prices from $50
to $150 per night depending on the season and the
quality of the hotel. All of the hotels are located
near the interstate highway, about 4 kms from the
Oregon Language Center. There is very limited bus
service near the hotels, so a rental car, taxi, or
bicycle would be necessary to travel to the Oregon
Language Center, unless you like to take long, hot
walks. The hotels are: Holiday Inn Express
(www.hiexpress.com),
Phoenix Inn (www.phoenixinnsuites.com),
La Quinta Inn (www.laquinta.com),
Best Western Albany Inn (www.bestwestern.com),
Comfort Suites, Quality Inn, and Econolodge
(www.choicehotels.com),
and Motel 6 (www.accorhotels.com).
Most have swimming pools and in-room microwaves,
and all but Motel 6 offer free breakfast. Holiday
Inn Express, Comfort Suites and Phoenix Inn are the
newest and probably the nicest hotels.
7. The Oregon Language Center
will attempt to keep an updated list of advertised
short-term apartment rentals which are located
within walking distance of the school. Contact us
if you would like a copy of the most recent
list.
