Pam Wendler-Shaw, Director of OLC

Pam Wendler-Shaw, Director

Pam is a Ph.D. candidate in Applied Linguistics at Boston University. Her wanderlust has led her to Japan, China, New Zealand, Australia, many European countries, 6 provinces of Canada, the 48 contiguous United States, and also to South Korea where she lived and traveled for two years while she was an English Instructor for Sookmyung Women's University and Pagoda Language Institute in Seoul.  Most recently, Ms. Wendler-Shaw taught English at Southwest Florida College in Tampa. Pam loves teaching ESL and becoming acquainted with people from around the globe, which is why she founded the OLC. Come visit!

Russel Shaw, Associate Director

Russel has a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Massachusetts at Boston and has been a teacher for 20 years.  He has extensive experience with ESL students in American classrooms in Boston and Tampa, and also served as an English instructor for 2 years at Pagoda Language Institute in Seoul, Korea.  Russel's favorite travel activities include SCUBA diving (especially in Hawaii, Korea, and on the Great Barrier Reef), and bungy jumping in New Zealand.

Jodi Smith, Instructor

Jody Smith, Instructor

Mrs. Smith has a Bachelor's Degree in History and Education from Oregon State University, with training and experience in ESL instruction. She teaches for the Albany public schools during the academic year, and we are happy to welcome her to the Oregon Language Center this summer. Mrs. Smith loves to travel and has visited Mexico, South Africa, Botswana, and Zimbabwe.

Charleen has a Master's Degree in Education from Eastern Washington University and is currently on sabbatical in Connecticut. Char was a popular ESL teacher at Pagoda Language Institute in Seoul, Korea, and has traveled extensively in Korea, as well as to England, the Middle East, Australia, and Hong Kong.

Sylvia Hernandez, Spanish Instructor

Ms. Hernandez is a native of Mexico and is fluent in both English and Spanish. A certified tutor, Sylvia has experience teaching adults at Chemeketa Community College and is looking forward to leading all levels of Spanish classes for the OLC. As a grandmother of 2, Sylvia loves children and will share her knowledge of Spanish language and culture in our preschool Spanish class.  Sylvia loves to travel and returns home to Mexico each year. She has also traveled to Central and South America and is planning a trip to Spain. Bienvenidos, Sylvia!
