Getting Here
from Abroad
The nearest major airport is Portland
International (PDX), located about 90 minutes from
Albany by car. There are daily nonstop flights
between Tokyo and Portland on Northwest Airlines
(www.nwa.com).
There are no nonstop flights to Portland from
elsewhere in Asia. Travelers from Korea must fly to
Seattle or San Francisco and then continue to
Portland. Korean Air, Asiana, and Delta Airlines
offer flights from Kimpo or Incheon to Seattle.
Most U.S. airlines offer daily connections from
major American cities to Portland.
Please note: Airline tickets
are not included in tuition price, and the Oregon
Language Center does not assist in scheduling air
travel or airport transfers.
Airport
Transfer:
There are several ways to
travel to Albany from Portland International
Airport.
1. If you schedule a homestay
through OvECS www.azhomestay.com,
your host family will usually pick you up. This is
not guaranteed and would need to be arranged
directly with your host family.
2. HUT Airport Transportation
(www.hutshuttle.com)
has offered reliable bus service to Albany since
1973. Their 28-passenger buses travel directly from
the airport to the Phoenix Inn (hotel) on the
outskirts of Albany every 1.5 hours. From the
Phoenix Inn, taxis are available to take you to
your lodging, or you might consider spending your
first night at the Phoenix Inn (www.phoenixinnsuites.com)
depending on your arrival time. At last check,
HUT's fares were $48 USD one way or $85 round trip.
HUT reservations must be made at least one day in
advance. Catch the HUT bus at PDX across from
luggage carousel 8 by the information booth in the
ground transportation area. Should you miss your
scheduled bus, simply call the driver
(1-888-257-0126) to transfer your reservation to
the next bus with available space.
3. Amtrak (www.amtrak.com)
offers train and bus service from Portland 5 times
per day between 11:15 a.m. and 9:10 p.m. for $15.
Unfortunately, the train station is not located at
the airport, but you can take a taxi or city bus
from the airport to the train station for an
additional fee. This is much less convenient than
HUT.
4. Enterprise Car Rental
(www.enterprise.com)
has an office near the Portland Airport and in
Albany (for drop-off). You need to be 25 years old
and have an international driver's license to rent
a car. Please note: driving yourself from the
airport is not recommended. Portland roads are
usually crowded and driving after a long flight can
be unsafe.
5. You can take a taxi from
the airport to Albany for about $150.
